FIR: how to complete the waste transfer note correctly
The FIR (waste identification consignment note) accompanies every waste transport. Completing it correctly avoids refused loads and penalties: here are the main fields and the most common mistakes.
When the FIR is needed
The consignment note accompanies the transport of waste from the producer to the recipient and is one of the traceability tools. It must physically accompany the load.
The main fields
The FIR contains the details of the producer, the carrier and the recipient, the description of the waste with the EWC code, the quantities and the destination facility.
- Complete details of the producer, carrier and recipient
- EWC code and quantities consistent with the load
- Signatures in the required fields
- Date of transport
Common mistakes
The most common mistakes are incorrect EWC codes, unchecked quantities, missing signatures and failure to keep the originals. The recipient's failure to return the copy must also be managed.
Retention
Traceability documentation must be kept for the periods set by the legislation in force. With RENTRI, consignment notes are progressively becoming digital.
